With the GDFNL season on hold, we will catch up with a few of the characters of the competition. Corio netball coach Shayna Poto is still working hard behind the scenes to keep her charges fit and enthusiastic during the downtime. Social media platforms and on line connections like Skype, Zoom and Webex are a big part of this contact and she has been delighted with how the girls have bought into the program. Shayna has not been a lifelong netballer, with basketball taking up her focus as a junior. She was good enough to play college basketball in the USA at Vincennes Uni in Indiana and San Diego after representing Queensland through junior teams. She returned from the US and played in the QBL. Her cousin Alicia Poto played WNBL with the AIS and the Sydney Flames. She followed her partner Tim Brown, brother of Brisbane Lions legend Jonathon, to Geelong and supported him as a netballer at his club Geelong West. She has also played locally at South Barwon and is now in her third season leading the Devils. Whenever the season does get underway, be assured that Shayna will have the Corio girls ready to roll.
