NETBALL: Bannockburn targets Lang and Couch

One could almost argue that the hardest match-up this weekend takes places on the netball courts of St Albans Reserve.

This afternoon Bannockburn and Thomson  will playoff for a spot in next Saturday’s second semi-final against A-Grade powerhouse Werribee.

And while Thomson remains as the only side to hold off the Centurions since 2015 one cannot shy away from Bannockburn’s superior percentage ahead of this afternoon’s blockbuster.

Bannockburn held off their fellow Tiger counterpart twice this season and head coach Justine Radford is ready to extend the streak.

“Coming into the finals I know they will have gelled a lot more and the second time they played us they added a new girl to the fold,” Radford recalled.

“We don’t go in expecting to win or lose but I keep reflecting on how they beat us twice last year and then we beat them heading into the grand final when it mattered most.”

The loser of today’s match will play off next Sunday against the winner of tomorrow’s elimination final between Corio and North Geelong.

“We’ve got a few injuries at the moment but most of the girls should be back in the side other than Katie Garner (ACL),” Radford explained.

Horsham recruit Georgia Duncan appears to be the one to watch for Bannockburn this finals series following an impressive month.

“She’s (Duncan) physical, athletic and she’ll be a great match-up through the centre court on  Jo Couch who I believe is playing centre for Thomson,” Radford said.

“We also have to Errin Lang (pictured) who is dominant for Thomson so our defenders have a big task but they can do it.”
