Werribee ‘the team to beat’ according to Blues mentor

Winchelsea A-Grade coach Kendall Carracher believes Thomson’s ten game winning streak will come to an end against Werribee.

Having played both of last year’s grand final teams, the second year Blues’ mentor predicts a thrilling midcourt display at Galvin Park tomorrow afternoon.

“I think Werribee will come out as convincing winners based on what we’ve seen but in saying that the Thomson line-up that we faced might look a bit different,” Carracher said.

“Werribee is strong right across the court so you really have to be disenabling them from the ball on each end.”

After four straight premierships from 2013-16 the Centurions were pipped from the premiership dais by Thomson last year.

The upset defeat came only a month after the Tigers snapped Werribee’s 47 game winning streak at Galvin Park.

Nevertheless tomorrow’s home side will remain the favourite according to Carracher.

“They (Werribee) have a real solid goal-keeper/goal-defence combination that’s tall, strong and agile; and then on the other end they have a goaller who holds beautifully,” she added.

“Thomson started the season slow but they’ve had new faces to begin with and they’ve done really well in recent weeks.”

“Overall, if I had to decide then I’d be tipping Werribee by five goals.”
