10 May GDFNL Buckleys Reserves Previews
GDFNL Morris Seniors’ Previews – Round 6
Geelong West vs. East Geelong
Only percentage separates the Eagles (164.73) and the Giants (138.12) who both enter this fifth vs. sixth clash with a 3-2 record.
The Eagles bounced back from a shock loss to North Geelong with a 15.9 (99) to 4.1 (25) win over Corio thanks to an impressive performance by Ethan McDonald. Christopher Warwick and Joel Trezise both finished with three goals while Mitch Hoare also added two to his name.
Spearhead Lachlan Vassallo had a day out for the Giants last week, scoring six goals in a 62-point win. They’ll now aim for a third straight win.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. East Geelong 8.13 (61) defeated Geelong West 2.4 (16).
Bannockburn vs. Werribee Centrals
Callum O’Malley was the star of the show the last time these two sides met in a clear best on ground performance. Expect a big game from the ball winner.
The Tigers will be competitive throughout this match after last week’s narrow win against the Magpies. Bailey Rathje doubled his season tally by scoring four goals.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. Werribee Centrals 9.10 (64) defeated Bannockburn 3.10 (28).
Anakie vs. Bell Post Hill
The last time these sides met, the Roos were held to one goal courtesy of James Charleson. Fast forward to season 2024 and the home side will enter as favourite after celebrating an early win against North Geelong and a nail-biting defeat to Belmont Lions last week.
The winless Panthers showed much improvement last week. Angus Martin was named best on ground while Jett Peters slotted two of his side’s three goals against the Giants. Tanner Martin has also been named for this clash.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. Anakie 1.4 (10) defeated by Bell Post Hill 4.8 (32).
Corio vs. Inverleigh
The visitors will enter this clash as favourite as a result of the Hawks’ four straight wins. Corio has only celebrated the one win at this stage, Trey Laurie has continued to prove accurate in front of goal.
Congratulations to Inverleigh great Blake Spiller who will line-up for his 150th game.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. Corio 4.3 (27) defeated by Inverleigh 10.17 (77).
Thomson vs. North Geelong
Don’t take North Geelong’s 1-4 record for granted. The new look playing group has been very competitive throughout their defeats and looked very impressive when defeating the reigning grand finalist East Geelong.
Thomson may end its current four game losing streak so long as the side is more accurate than their last meeting against the Magpies.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. North Geelong 5.5 (35) defeated Thomson 1.12 (18).
Winchelsea vs. Belmont Lions
The Lions have continued to tick every box in both seniors and reserves, prevailing over the Roos in last week’s 12pm clash by the narrowest of margins. This doesn’t necessarily mean that their long-awaited top of the table clash against Werribee Centrals in Round 9 will be between two undefeated sides though.
The Blues looked impressive when defeating North Geelong last month and are led well by on field leader Jarrod Winzer.
Last time they met – Round 12, 2023. Belmont Lions 3.3 (21) defeated by Winchelsea 6.10 (46).
