Panther coach tips Tigers in today’s final

Bell Post Hill coach Brad Martin believes his side will most likely match up on Thomson in Saturday’s GDFL preliminary final.

The Panthers held off the Tigers by 10-points last week however will now play the winner of Thomson vs. Geelong West as a result of yesterday’s 32-point defeat to Inverleigh.

“They have both beaten us during the season so either way we’ll have a tough challenge on our hands,” Martin said.

“Thomson will be hoping to bounce back while Geelong West have had a good run and some close challenges over the years.”

Thomson ended a six year drought over Bell Post Hill with a 10-point win in Round 2 despite missing key figures Samuel Jacka, Jake Aldering, Paul Davis and Todd McLeod by the final term.

Adam Wiseman proved to be the standout that day when extending his early run of Whitley medal votes while fellow recruit Troy Fenyvesi continued to outsmart his opposing midfielders as the match continued.

They (Thomson) then made the ultimate statement in Round 13 when holding the Panthers to 3.11 (29); their lowest score in a completed match since Round 13, 2005.

Geelong West also looked to end a 17-year-old drought against the GDFL’s modern powerhouse when falling short in Round 7.

The Giants would finally take down the Panther juggernaut 12 weeks later in a come from behind victory.

Their captain Scott Jervies would poll Whitley medal votes in both matches.

“At this stage I’ll pick Thomson purely for the cattle,” Martin added.

“But Geelong West has heart and heart can take you a long way in any finals series.”
