The Geelong & District Football Netball League (GDFNL) is proud to announce that a total of $4,285.00 has been raised and donated to support the family of Nathan Fitzgerald, following the tragic events that have deeply impacted football communities across Victoria and beyond.
During last weekend's matches, GDFNL clubs came together in a remarkable show of compassion and solidarity, donating gate takings, conducting raffles, and collecting contributions from members, supporters, volunteers, players, and the wider community.
The funds raised have been donated directly to the fundraising campaign established by Nathan's family.
As Treasurer of the GDFNL, I am incredibly proud of the response shown by our clubs.
Nathan's passing has hit home for many across our league. Football clubs are more than places where games are played.
They are communities built on friendship, family, and shared experiences. The loss of a young footballer in such tragic circumstances serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how precious life can be and how closely connected our football family truly is.
At just 27 years of age, Nathan was taken far too soon while playing the game he loved. His passing has been felt not only by the Epping Football Netball Club, the Northern Football Netball League, and those who knew him personally, but throughout the broader football community.
The actions of our clubs over the past week have demonstrated the very best qualities of local football and netball. In a time of immense sadness, people have stepped forward without hesitation to support a family facing an unimaginable loss.
On behalf of the Geelong & District Football Netball League, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Hannah Fitzgerald, the Fitzgerald family, Nathan's teammates, friends, and the entire Epping Football Netball Club community.
We would like to sincerely thank every club, volunteer, supporter, player, official, and community member who contributed to this fundraising effort. Whether through a donation, raffle ticket purchase, attendance at a match, or simply spreading awareness, every contribution has helped make this donation possible.
