Corio immortal Joel Bennett has taken another positive step in his recovery, undergoing successful surgery this week as he continues his rehabilitation from the spinal injury that has impacted him for the past two seasons.
The 2023 Whitley Medallist suffered the injury in Round 6, 2024 while co-coaching Corio against reigning premier Inverleigh. After returning for 12 games last year and three games this season, Bennett revealed surgeons successfully removed two problem bones that had been causing ongoing nerve issues.
Bennett thanked his family, medical staff and the football community for their unwavering support, saying their encouragement had helped him through the difficult journey ahead.
