Bannockburn is well placed to ride up the Geelong & District Football League ladder next season according to outgoing coach Ron Pilgrim.
The Tigers can still make finals this year, but need a few things to go their way first.
It’s a bit complicated, but Banno (40 points, percentage 128.61) will sneak in if it flogs Corio, and Bell Post Hill (40, 130.63) defeats Belmont Lions (44, 135.13), but not by too much.
Pilgrim, who has played and coached more than 500 games at Victoria Park, will step down at the end of the season – whenever that is.
Pilgrim said whoever inherits Bannockburn’s young list, only needs to add a bit of experience.
“I think we need to add just a couple more experienced players,” he said.
“We’ve got the youth there. We haven’t had our best side on the park.
“I think we’ve got a pretty good list, but for reasons, whether it’s injury or unavailability, we’re struggling to get our best team on the park.
“I think we’d look at bringing in maybe another midfielder or two next year and another forward. I think if we can do that, we’ll contend again.”
For now all the Tigers can do is take care of business against Corio this week and wait for the result of the Panthers-Lions game to filter in.
Corio stunned premiership fancy Winchelsea in the penultimate round by 41 points and will enter the game full of confidence. East Geelong’s win against North Geelong also wasn’t ideal.
