Netball legend honoured at East Geelong
East Geelong honoured one of its club greats by the official naming of its new refurbished netball courts.
Club president Dan Payne announced the naming of the netball precinct after Gail Ferguson.
"We wanted to recognise someone who has put their whole life into this club so from a netball perspective I'm sure you'll all know Gail," he announced.
The netball legend said she was honoured and reflected on her 25 years of netball service to the league since the sport was introduced in 2002.
"When you take something on you do it with passion, you have ups and downs but the ups are much higher," she reflected.
"Watching juniors go into seniors, watching first premierships and watching us get the best coach that we have ever had in Justine (Radford)."
Gail's honour coincided with her daughter Brooke O'Leary's 350th game.
Hosting Geelong West, the Eagles had secured an 8/8 winning rate at the time of the unveiling thanks to earlier victories 27-19 in 13&U, 41-8 (15&U), 45-11 (17&U), 39-16 (19&U), 47-12 (E Grade), 58-25 (D Grade), 38-21 (C Grade) and 48-17 (B Grade).
After a nail-biting win over Corio in Round 1, the home side then celebrated a 63-19 A Grade win against the Giants to make it a perfect day for the netball section.
